Con-Science — New Jersey Underground Hip Hop Duo
Con-Science is a New Jersey underground hip hop duo consisting of longtime friends and collaborators Soulution and Sosick. Friends since early childhood, the two New Jersey natives turned a shared passion for music, records, and hip hop culture into a creative partnership that has spanned more than two decades.
The foundation of Con-Science was built long before there was an official group. Influenced by a wide range of musical genres and the raw creativity of hip hop, Soulution developed his skills as an MC by freestyling over records from Sosick's extensive vintage vinyl collection. What began simply—with two friends, two turntables, a microphone, and a collection of records—eventually evolved into the sound and identity of Con-Science.
Drawing inspiration from the foundations of East Coast hip hop, underground rap, boom bap, sampling, DJ culture, and the classic sound of 1990s hip hop, Soulution and Sosick developed a style rooted in lyricism and a deep appreciation for the music that helped shape hip hop culture. Their diverse musical influences and years of working together created a chemistry that could only come from decades of friendship and collaboration.
Con-Science would go on to become one of the building blocks of GO-ILLA Productions, the Hudson County, New Jersey underground hip hop collective featuring MCs, producers, DJs, and artists dedicated to creating independent music outside the mainstream. As part of the GO-ILLA family, Soulution and Sosick continued developing their sound while contributing to the collective's growing catalog of New Jersey underground hip hop.
After years of writing, recording, producing, collecting records, and sharpening their craft, Con-Science brought that experience together for 10,000 Hours, a long-awaited project representing the duo's dedication to mastering their art.
The meaning behind the title reflects the philosophy that has defined Con-Science from the beginning: becoming great at something requires putting in the time and doing the work. For Soulution and Sosick, those hours were accumulated through years of freestyling, writing, producing, digging through records, experimenting with sounds, recording music, and living hip hop culture.
Con-Science represents authentic New Jersey underground hip hop built from friendship, experience, lyricism, vinyl, turntables, and more than twenty years of musical collaboration. From childhood friends experimenting with records and a microphone to established members of GO-ILLA Productions, Soulution and Sosick have continued doing what the name 10,000 Hours represents—putting in the work.
